I was born in St. Louis, MO on 8/3/48 the oldest of seven children raised by two wonderful parents, Charles and Rita Welek. Up until my late teens my father was president of WELEK FABRICS, a family business established by my great-grandfather in 1897.
In 1966 I graduated from St. Louis University High School. During my senior year I was tri-captain of the football team that finished third in the in the St. Louis metropolitan area and also goalie on the soccer team that came in second in the state championship.
Next I attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC where I played football all four years, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Language Arts in 1970, and also met my future wife, Diane Lemcke, from Webster Groves, Missouri whose family has owned LEMCKE TV & APPLIANCE since the 1940’s.
We married in 1971 and have been blessed with two wonderful sons. Chuck, with Enterprise Leasing in St. Louis, and his wife, Anne, have three marvelous children, Rayna Nicole, Logan Charles and Cameron James. Our youngest son, David, is a personal trainer-yoga instructor-martial artist-musician in Dallas, TX where he resides with his wife, Lindsay, and their three girls, Myka, Skylar and Kya.
My parents built our first vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks in 1963 and a second home in 1970 – both in Black Hawk Estates on Horseshoe Bend. After the birth of our first-born in 1973, we moved from St. Louis to the Lake where I worked in construction before beginning my real estate career.
In 1985, my father, a very successful REALTOR who conducted business as WELEK REALTY here at the Lake from 1968 to 1990, asked me to join his company and help him with his real estate appraisal business.
Shortly after becoming a certified appraiser, I also earned my real estate Sales-Person license followed by my broker’s license the next year. After that I became very active in our Bagnell Dam Area Board of REALTORS serving on several committees as well as the Board of Directors before being elected president in 1992. I also earned the Graduate of the Real Estate Institute (GRI) designation early on as well.
Since then I have very much enjoyed assisting customers and clients either achieve their dream of owning a home here at the Lake or selling their Lake home and moving on to the next chapter of their lives wherever that might be.
Overall, it has been a very rewarding career. I’ve been a multi-million dollar producer almost since day one… deriving a lot of personal satisfaction from making sure my customers and clients get the very best service I can deliver based on my attention to detail and almost 35 years of real estate experience in our local marketplace.
And I hope to be able to continue for many more years. Or as the comedian, Steve Allen, used to say… “until I get it right!”
